I happen to be doing a bit of dog-sitting for a friend this month, which has had me online looking up “dog-friendly” things to do on Long Island (I’m clueless… I have two cats and I don’t take them anywhere). While there isn’t much outside of a few dog parks scattered throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, I did stumble upon an extensive list of dog-friendly wineries on the East End, some of which schedule events specifically for the enjoyment of (wo)man’s best friend. Martha Clara, for instance, is hosting a “Sunset Vines and Canines Educational Vineyard Walk” at 7pm this Friday night. For the price of a donation of a non perishable pet food item, you and your pooch are invited to explore the vineyards with winemaker Juan Micieli-Martinez and his dog Satchmo. Not listed below is The Lenz Winery, which sometimes hosts a “Yappy Hour” event to support the North Fork Animal Welfare League (check their website for details and dates).
Here’s the complete list of dog-friendly wineries on Long Island (and thanks to DogFriendly.com for the information). Lexi and I will be sure to visit you this week!
